Rationale

Here is the rationale for my project:

The Meaningful Character: Rationale

The Wellington SPCA is our client for this assignment. They are an organisation providing food, shelter, veterinary care, love and help to find new homes for unwanted, abused or neglected animals within the Wellington region. They also aim to educate the public on how to care for animals. Their organisation always appreciates donations from the public as they are not funded by the government, so require monetary donations, pet food, surgical items and other resources that would help accommodate the animals.
For this assignment I created a story about a homeless cat on the street holding up the SPCA’s slogan ‘you don’t have to adopt me to help me.’ My story was based around donating food to the SPCA or other resources that may help them look after the animals in their care, or even just animals that are being fostered in the community. The scene shows the cat looking miserable yet hopeful, looking around as it’s waiting for food, and as people wander past in the street. Eventually someone drops a bowl of food near it and the cat puts down its sign and enters almost a dream world, where food donations start appearing around it. The overlaid colouring of the scene also changes from blue to a pinky-yellow to show a transition from a hopeless state to a brighter future. I used street noise for the hopelessness scene to imply people are walking past the cat. This fades into cheerful music during the dream scene to reinforce the happiness the cat is feeling. By the end of the scene the cat is staring happily towards the camera and the scene fades out into the SPCA logo.

The idea is that with the assistance of public donations, this animal, and all animals that the SPCA is involved with will have a chance at a better life.
