I remeshed my destroyed flag and textured it. Because the map was all over the place and hard to cut I chose to just make a camera-based map and texture around it:
Same with the original flag shape, I thought it would be ok to just flat texture the whole thing because they are pretty much entirely a rustic brown.
Anyway here is the full textured view (for some reason the viewport is messing with my flag mesh but when render it out the 'see through' bits don't show up):
