A while back I had grabbed a picture of the Balkan mountains to use as my matte painting backdrop. I had eyedropper picked the colours in photoshop and just coloured over the original image. I also clone stamped some of it to hide the original Buzludzha star tower that was in the picture:
I created the hands stamping, waving hammer and sickle, lit star, etc in illustrator for a clean look, then brought them back into photoshop for minor editing and layers. I used these as my 2D overlays and elements during my animation by alternating layers, scaling etc in Final Cut Pro:
My Mac started playing up so unfortunately this is the only quick screenie I grabbed of my Final Cut Pro project, but I put the narration, my PSD files, renders and backdrop images in, and started piecing the video together. Here I added all the transitions, effects and music etc for the final output:
